New BLOGAnnouncing the new Squadron 40 BLOG! See the new link under the links section in the upper left. A blog is an easy to use web authoring tool that will allow several people from the Squadron to post information... without being a web programmer. Look there for information on upcoming events and meetings, and info about our recent events. Golf Fund RaiserWe wish to give a huge thank you to all who helped make our Golf Fund Raiser a success! We were able to raise enough money to fund our hanger/office/meeting place for another year, plus. Thank You! Emergency ServicesOf all the air rescue searches undertaken by the USAF each year, the Civil Air Patrol is responsible for flying approximately 80% of the total flight hours. Search missions and training missions are often funded by the Air Force using CAP aircraft, member-owned aircraft, and rental aircraft. A specially trained search crew consists of pilots, observers, scanners, and their associated ground operations team. CAP plays an integral part in the California Office of Emergency Service's disaster response effort. Flying activities include:
In fiscal 2010, Civil Air Patrol is credited with saving 100 lives! Aerospace EducationCAP members are provided with a basic aerospace education to better understand and appreciate their aerospace world. CAP provides basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes about aerospace that enable you to live in tomorrow's society. C.A.P. does not
give student pilot instruction, but while continuing your work with
your C.F.I. you can join Squadron 40 and become a flight crew member. When
you get your License it is easy to upgrade to C.A.P. Pilot and start
your Pilot Training. The minimum requirement for a CAP Pilot is 100 hours PIC.
An instrument rating is not required. Not all CAP members are certified pilots and the non-pilot activities are as exciting as the air operations. Search missions utilize scanning personnel within the aircraft, ground search crews, and the ground-based operations. These "air ops" are the nerve center of a search mission, providing radio communications, mission briefings, and aircraft coordination. Civil Air Patrol is looking for men and women to help assist those in distress and ensure the importance of service to others in our nation is never lost. Remember, you do not need to own an aircraft or be a pilot to join CAP. Acceptance is determined by the squadron and through the National Headquarters. Although membership is selective, CAP prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, sex or religion. Civil Air Patrol is voluntary and self-funded. Congress provides some funds for the emergency services function, but the majority of the operating expenses are generated by member dues. Currently, members pay national organization and squadron dues.
